Meet the Governors

Our Governors are very proud of Castle Cary Primary School and work hard to promote the welfare and ethos of the school.  Governors essentially wear two governance hats - to monitor outcomes for children against the individual school improvement plan, acting as a critical friend to the headteacher and as a portfolio holders who monitor against Trust wide objectives.

Governors are responsible for Stakeholder engagement, Providing local intelligence and strategic focus. All our Governors are volunteers with a wide range of complementary skills which are harnessed to benefit the school.

The local committee are made up of 2 parent governors, 1 is a staff member, the headteacher and at least 2 co-opted Governors appointed by the Trust Board. The term of office is four years.  Individuals are appointed on the basis of their ability to contribute to the work of the Local Committee and come from a wide range of backgrounds, including business and education. The Chair and Vice-Chair are appointed annually via a vote amongst the Local Committee.

The Clerk, which is an independent paid role, will arrange, administrate and record all meetings and advise on areas of protocol and procedure that need to be adhered to.

We have 5 local committee meetings a year at which all Governors are expected to attend.  In addition there are portfolio meetings.

Our Governors take an active part in the school throughout the year and all have at least one specific area of responsibility which links them with members of staff.  We spend time understanding the learning that happens in the classroom.

If you would like to see the minutes of our Governing Board meetings please request a copy from the school office. To be a governor is an important and demanding role but very rewarding.  We are deeply committed to the success and well-being of the children at Castle Cary Primary School.  If you would like to find out more or are interested in joining us please get in touch, the application form can be found here.
